    Indications

    Directions
General Care: Frame/Hand Grips: Wipe metal parts with a clean, soft cloth at least once a week. All metal parts can be cleaned with auto wax or similar products. If exposed to moisture, dry immediately. Do not use an abrasive cleanser that will scratch the finish. Use only a clean towel dampened with cool water when cleaning hand grips. Confirm that the grips are dry before using. Never use ammonia-based cleaning solutions or soap on hand grips, which may cause them to loosen or crack. Wheels: Large rear wheels should be inspected at least once a month to ensure proper tightness. If wheel wobbles or is loose, release lock nut and tighten axle bolt slightly. Test for proper tightness and alignment by leaning chair to one side and spinning adjusted wheel. Tires: Tires need minimal maintenance, but should be cleaned as needed with a damp cloth. Replace if tires become worn or cracking appears. Front Casters: Check casters and lubricate as needed. Lubricate by removing fork and greasing caster stem bearings with high-quality multi-purpose grease. Lubricate wheel bearings by removing wheel from fork. Reassemble fork and wheel by tightening lock nuts until no play remains, but wheels roll freely. If lock nut is too loose, caster will shimmy. If it is too tight, chair will be difficult to steer. Assembly of Elevating Leg Rests:1. Holding one elevating leg rest, turn the assembly to the side so that the open front portion is perpendicular to the wheelchair. 2. Line up the hinge plate of the elevating leg rest over the hinge pins located on the front of the wheelchair. 3. Lower the elevating leg rest over the pin until it rests on the hinge plate. 4. Rotate the entire leg rest assembly towards the front of the wheelchair until it locks into place. The foot plate should be at the front of the chair when the elevating leg rest is locked into place. 5. Repeat Steps 1-4 to install the opposite elevating leg rest. Adjusting Height of Foot Plates: Sit in chair with your feet on the foot plates. Using a hex wrench, loosen the hex screw on the clamp around the support assembly. Raise or lower foot plate to a position that provides the most support of your thighs, then re-tighten hex screw. Front rigging should not be so low that it causes uncomfortable pressure to thighs at front of seat upholstery. Foot plates should not be lower than 2-1/2 inches from the ground to ensure proper clearance. Removal of Arms: Remove arms by depressing push buttons and lifting arms out of front and rear sockets. Elevating/Lowering Leg Rests: Sit in chair with your feet on the foot plates. The individual assisting you should hold on to the leg rest support tube to raise elevating the leg rest until the desired position is reached. To lower the elevating leg rest, the individual assisting you should support the elevating leg rest with one hand while pushing the release lever, then slowly lower the elevating leg rest to the desired position. Removal of Elevating Leg Rests: Release lock by pushing on the front rigging lever. Swing elevating leg rest out and sideways, then lift to remove. Using Your Wheelchair: To Open Chair: Open chair by tilting to one side and pushing down on seat rail until fully opened. To Close/Fold Chair: To fold chair, pull up on the locks simultaneously, and carefully fold down the back support. Place foot plates in a vertical position. Grab seat with both hands at front and back edges, then lift. Or, tilt chair to one side and lift up on seat rail. Wheel Locks: Engage both wheel locks before getting in or out of chair, leaning forward in chair, or while in an elevator or wheelchair lift. Proper adjustment of wheel lock is at least 1/8 inch when locked. Locks are engaged by pushing handles completely forward. Adjustments to locks are made by loosening or tightening nut on the carriage hex screw. Embed lock shoe at least 1/8 inch by sliding clamp toward rear wheel while handle is engaged in locked position. Tighten nut and hex screw to secure in position. Test for correct locking action before actual use. Stability: Wheelchair is designed to be stable as long as the center of gravity is maintained while going about normal activities. Care must be taken while performing activities that shift your center of gravity while in the chair. Never reach so far that you have to shift in the seat or lean out of the chair. When you have to reach for objects that require you to lean, be certain front casters are pointing in a forward position and wheel locks are engaged, which stabilizes the chair. Ramps: Be sure of your own capabilities, limitations, and strength before attempting to go up or down a ramp. Correct techniques on ramp negotiation should be shown to you by a healthcare provider. Assistance is recommended when going up or down inclines greater than 10 inch. If you must stop on an incline, avoid sudden, abrupt movement when you resume movement. Because of backward angle of the chair, sudden abrupt movement could cause instability. Attempting to use the wheel lock brakes could result in accidental locking or tipping to one side or could cause a sudden stop. Avoid changing direction when going down an incline, as this could result in instability or tipping over.
